How To Make An American Quilt by Whitney Otto
This charming first novel by the American writer, Whitney Otto,
weaves together the stories of women who make up a “quilting
circle” in small town. Whitney Otto’s beautiful
and complex mixing of stories portrays the lives of these individuals
with such humanity and grace, while also demonstrating the
change in the social fabric of their world over time. You cannot
fail to admire this book, nor be hooked on the voice of this
wonderful writer.
Men Under Water by Ralph Lombreglia
Here is a writer whose name I always look for, and who sadly
doesn’t write enough to fill satiate my desire for more
of his funny, smart, engaging prose. I am sure this book is
long out of print, as may be his newer collection, Make Me
Work, but Ralph Lombreglia’s work is worth the hunt.
He’s fabulous, gifted, and he gives his all on every
page. A remarkable writer and one I admire hugely.
Vernon God Little by DBC Pierre
A knock-your-socks off debut Booker prize winning novel about
a wrongly accused fifteen-yeear-old facing execution in a Texas.
Subtitled “A 21st Century Comedy In The Presence of Death” the
first chapter arrives with the announcement “Shit Happened” and
you really can’t put it down from there.
